U.S. Congress Official Calls on Damascus to De-escalate and Investigate Violations

U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called on the Syrian government to de-escalate militarily with the Syrian Democratic Forces and to open an investigation into committed violations, warning of the repercussions of continued violence.

In a tweet published on Thursday on the “X” platform, Shaheen said she is deeply concerned about the recent acts of violence in the city of Aleppo and the potential risk of a widening escalation.

She stressed the need for the Syrian government to take the initiative to de-escalate, investigate violations, and resume political talks. Conversely, she urged the Syrian Democratic Forces to recommit to negotiations and move forward in completing the integration process in accordance with the March 10 agreement.
